Anjengo Fort, Varkala
Decked with glorious historic tales and adorned by the alluring charm of the Varkala Beach, the Anjengo Fort is located around 36km towards the north of Thriuvananthapuram. Also called the ‘Anchuthengu Fort’ (literal meaning: Five Coconut Trees) and ‘Anjenga Fort’, this historical monument served as the first trade base of the East India Company in Kerala.
One of the most opulent tourist attractions in Kerala, the Anjengo Fort was ruled by the Portuguese and Dutch before it came to the hands of the British army. Run and maintained by the National Heritage Monuments Council, the fort houses many architectural and historical marvels as well.
