For the visitors who want to witness, experience and feel this eternal bonding, they must visit Kodanad in Ernakulam district. One of the unique and most sought after tourist attractions in Kerala, Kodanadtraining camp boasts of being the largest elephant training centres in India.
Located on the southern banks of the alluring Periyar River and cossetted by fascinating mountain ranges, this training centre serves as a home to the captured elephants from the Malayatoor Forests and trains them to carry out various domestic purposes. However, with the amendment of new ‘Animal Protection Laws’, capturing elephant from the jungles has been declared as a cruel act against the giant mammoths. At present, the training centre has a total of around 40 elephants that belongs to the pious Guruvayoor Temple.
